Chiropody (Foot Care)

A chiropodist is a primary health care professional practising podiatric medicine. Our chiropodists assess, diagnose, prescribe, manage and carry out treatments including minor surgical, soft tissue procedures and therapeutic treatments to registered clients.

Foot care includes

  • prevention: education and screening of high risk clients and children
  • palliation: assisted care of non-curable soft tissue aliments, such as corns, calluses, nail care
  • curative: office-based nail and soft tissue surgery, steroid injections, sports related injury, custom made devices and braces, prescribing medications, management and prevention in disease and disorders of the foot

How to request service

Due to the high level of demand for chiropody services we prioritize new clients based on their needs. Priority is given to those living in our catchment area that have:

  • visual impairments
  • diabetes
  • ulcers
  • physical disabilities
  • mental health concerns
  • children, youth, and seniors over 75 years of age with debilitating foot pathologies
  • persons who are homeless and do not have insurance to cover foot care.

Please call our intake office to help determine if you are eligible for service. You must meet criteria and have a medical doctor’s referral to make appointments. Existing health centre clients must also meet entrance criteria for chiropody service and have a referral from their family physician.
