The City of Toronto and Toronto Urban Growers collaborated with Flemingdon Health Centre on the Community Engagement and Entrepreneurial Development (CEED) project to use hydro corridors to grow fruit and vegetable crops. Flemingdon Community Farm (now known as Flemo Farm) is a community-owned and community-developed initiative. Flemo Farm transformed an underutilized grass area into a vibrant community space growing healthy food.
This project is a testament to FHC’s keen interest in partnership-driven community engagement. Our work has been directly supported by the following partners, who also play a central guidance and support role as part of the Flemo Farm Steering Committee:
The Community Farmer program provides land access to those who live in the local community and will benefit most from access to space to grow food for supplemental income. This program prioritizes applications from people who experience systemic forms of marginalization, such as growers who are Black, Indigenous and people of colour, those living on a fixed income, newcomers, LGBTQ2S+ folks, women and those with disabilities.
